What it does
Linear’s latest release, published Thursday, extends Initiatives — the company’s layer for managing product strategy and high-level planning across projects — with two additions aimed squarely at how real organizations run roadmaps. First, you can now assign a team to lead an initiative, making it explicit who is responsible for driving the work and how it contributes to the broader direction. Second, initiatives led by private teams are now visible only to that team’s members, creating a secure place for confidential planning, regulated projects, audits, and other restricted work. The same release brings enterprise-managed authorization to Linear’s MCP: when employees connect from a supported Anthropic agent, Linear verifies their identity through Okta and applies their existing Linear permissions, so administrators can manage agent access centrally without each employee signing in or authorizing individually — available to Enterprise workspaces with Okta SAML configured.
Why it matters for PMs
The strategy layer is getting governance — ownership, confidentiality, and centrally managed agent access — a sign planning tools are being built for a world where both people and agents read the roadmap. If your sensitive plans live in Linear, private initiatives change what you can safely keep there; and Okta-managed MCP authorization previews the controls IT will demand before agents are allowed near your tracker.
