Microsoft’s one Copilot app

Covered by Signal Brief for B2B SaaS product managers — one of 5 tools in Issue #5 · geekwire.com

What it does

Microsoft has started merging its consumer Copilot app and Microsoft 365 Copilot into a single application — one app called Microsoft Copilot, with a refreshed icon — laying the structural foundation for the Copilot “super app” CEO Satya Nadella has touted to developers and investors, though the company is careful to note the unified app is a step toward the super app, not the launch itself. The consolidation arrives with cuts: starting August 18, consumer features including Copilot Podcasts, Group Chat, and Deep Research go away, with a similar tool called Researcher available only to Microsoft 365 Premium subscribers, and the enterprise portal moves from m365.cloud.microsoft to copilot.cloud.microsoft. Microsoft says Microsoft 365 Copilot has surpassed 30 million paid seats, up from 20 million in April, with net seat additions more than doubling quarter over quarter — the clearest number yet on enterprise AI-assistant adoption at scale.

Why it matters for PMs

The assistant that 30 million paying enterprise users open is consolidating into a single front door — which is where your product’s MCP connections and agents will meet them. If your roadmap or distribution story assumes Copilot as a channel, plan against one app, one brand, and one deprecation list. The cuts are a consolidation case study too: platforms prune features to focus the core job, and anything you build on a consumer-facing surface can vanish in a release note.
